Name Change: PDR Electronic Library



One of the electronic resources the library provides, PDR Electronic Library, will be renamed. Please read below the notice from Thomson Reuters.


Due to the recent divesture of the PDR business from Thomson Reuters, the PDR® Electronic Library™ site is being renamed Micromedex® Product Labeling. This change will take effect the evening of March 31, 2010.
The name change will not affect any of the content in your subscription, which continues to be supplied by PDR. Only the name is changing.

Download the New FIU Medical Library Toolbar for FireFox 3.6

Have you downloaded and installed the new version of FireFox (3.6)? If so, your FIU Medical Library Toolbar would be disabled due to the compatibility issue. The Library Toolbar has been rebuilt to work with the new version of FireFox.

UpToDate Trial

The library is having a trial on a clinical database, UpToDate. Follow the directions below to access UpToDate. Any suggestions or feedback on the database features would be welcome. E-mail us to medlib@fiu.edu!

Note: UptoDate is available on-campus only

  1.  If you are connected to FIU’s VPN, please make sure to log off from the VPN first.
  2. Make sure you are connected to the internet by either FIU wireless or wired network on either the Madique or BBC campus.
  3. Go to http://poseidon.fiu.edu/MED/CheckDB.cfm?db=UpToDate
  4. When prompted, enter the 14 digit barcode on the back of your Panther ID card.
  5. You should be connected to UpToDate.
  6. If you see an error message but you are an on-campus user COM member with a currently-valid Panther ID card, please contact the library (medlib@fiu.edu) with the detailed information about your location, the mode of internet access (wired/wireless), and your contact information.

    PubMed Training this Thursday!

    Are you a frequent PubMed user or perhaps a new PubMed user wanting to learn more about this powerful resource? Join us Thursday, March 18th at 3:15pm in HLS II 655 for our PubMed Searching session! At this session we will also go over searching MeSH and limiting your search andwill cover such advanced PubMed features as printing/emailing/downloading your search results, using Single Citation matcher and the Journal’s Database, and how to create a MyNCBI account.

    Please note that there have been some changes to the workshop schedule! More information will be available soon at our Workshop Homepage.

    Our Medical librarians also offer personalized individual and group instructional sessions, if the date and time for these workshops do not work for your schedule or if you would like to learn more about a topic that isn’t covered in our workshops.     Help with Medical Term Pronunciations!

    The MedlinePlus Medical Dictionary now includes audio pronunciations. To hear the pronounciations, begin at MedlinePlus homepage. Click on the Medical Dictionary link in the menu on the left side of the page. Next, type in the term you are interested in. A red speaker icon will be next to your word: click on the icon to hear the pronunciation.

    Epocrates - issue with off-campus access

    Currently, there is an issue with our access to Epocrates Online from off-campus locations.  The library is working with Epocrates in order to resolve this issue as soon as possible. On-campus access to Epocrates Online will not be affected.
