U.S. Census Bureau
All kinds of demographic data, including population trends, average commute time. Can be drilled down to Florida towns/cities. Includes maps.

Miami-Dade Public Health Department
Health Services (Community Health Centers, Dental, Service sites, family preparedness guide for disasters); Immigration Clinics; General vital statistics (for county)

Census Tracker
·       Interactive community map, including satellite view
·       Health Resources Availability – sortable by streets and proximity

Florida Housing Data
Provides detailed data on housing costs, ages of persons in household, etc. for FL counties and for some specific communities (e.g., Opa Locka)

Getting the best out of a Google Search
When using Google to locate community demographic information, .gov sites will be some of the most reliable.  To narrow down your Google search to .gov try the following search strategy:

"miami gardens" site:gov

If you are looking for a phrase, put the phrase in quotes.  Adding site:gov will also limit your results to .gov sites only.

Another search to try is “community profiles” “city name here”

Public Libraries
Try the public libraries (http://www.mdpls.org/) in the specific neighborhoods.  When calling, make sure you ask for a reference librarian.  The Main library also has a Florida Collection department – their direct line is 305-375-5023
FIU Library Catalog
The FIU library (not just the Medical Library, but the library as a whole) may have a book or other resource related to your neighborhood.  http://fiu.catalog.fcla.edu/fi.jsp

Information on Schools
·       Miami Dade School District http://www.dadeschools.net/

Crime and other City Information
·       Miami Dade County (try the Home & Neighborhood link)
·       Check to see if your neighborhood has a Chamber of Commerce
